With the allure of virtually-perfect year-round weather, beautiful beaches, a mecca of shopping attractions and places to play, and gorgeous guys, making a decision to visit San Diego is an easy one.

Travelers can experience majestic mountains, the warmth of the beach, and a taste of the desert - all within San Diego County. Businesses continue to flourish in San Diego, and the building of new homes and condos throughout San Diego County reflect the region’s healthy economy. And right at the heart of San Diego, in Hillcrest, that economic growth is reflected back in rainbow hues by the city’s active and visible gay community. New shops, living spaces, restaurants, hotels and bars offer visitors and residents alike an array of exciting choices and experiences. Finding a place to party or experience the nightlife is an easy task in San Diego, and for the more discerning traveler, an ample selection of fine restaurants and wine shops can be found both in the distinctive downtown area, and throughout the city.

A night on the (Gay) town
A night on the town in san Diego can appease the tastes of many. For levi and leather, make a stop in at San Diego Eagle. Pecs Bar is popular with locals and area visitors alike. It’s really a place for everybody, although it does have a large bear and leather following. For dancing, great music, and guest performers, both Bacchus House and Rich’s are on the right track. Neighborhood bars like The Loft, #1 Fifth Avenue, The Caliph, and The Brass Rail also abound, and are a San Diego tradition. And if you’re in the mood for eye candy, there’s no shortage of cute boys at Bourbon Street, or Flicks (which has been serving the community for over 20 years). And of course, a visit to Hamburger Mary’s and Kickers is a must every day of the week.

Food Fun!
Finding a great place to eat is also a cinch in San Diego, but when in Hillcrest, make it a point to enjoy Baja Betty’s, Brians’ American Eatery, City Deli, Martini’s Above Fourth, and Ono Sushi. All of these venues will fill you up and leave you happy! And for after dinner (or morning coffee), David’s Coffeehouse is the place to be seen and relax. Looking for something a bit more on the wild side? For the ultimate in drag dining, Lips is always number one!

Stay a Night or a Week.
A number of hotels make ideal accommodations for gay visitors to San Diego. Staying at the Hillcrest Inn is one such option. It’s close, and an easy walk to bars, shops and restaurants. Another is the Park Manor Suites, which recently expanded their rooftop patio to include a brand new bar and outdoor rooftop restaurant overlooking the beautiful San Diego harbor (and offering more space to play on Friday nights during their legendary happy hour). Their upgrades and renovations include guest rooms and public areas as well.

A quick drive to La Jolla and you’ll find the elegant boutique Hotel La Jolla at the Shores. Add to the mix, the Handlery Hotel & Resort in Mission Valley or the remodeled Inn Suites Lafayette Hotel, and your stay is set.

Day Trips and Diversions.
When in San Diego, don’t forget that Tijuana is a short 30-minute drive to the South, and Black’s Beach, one of the more spectacular nude beaches on the West Coast, is located in nearby La Jolla. There’s also the World Famous San Diego Zoo, which is located within beautiful Balboa Park (itself is an attraction)! Diversionary Theatre offers the best for the gay theatre lover, and there is never a shortage of cultural events to experience.
