LaConner, Washington

If you are traveling to the Northwest, plan a visit to La Conner Washington. Situated between Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, BC; La Conner makes a great getaway in itself or a convenient stop when traveling between Seattle and Vancouver. La Conner started out as a fishing village in the late 1800’s and has transformed itself into an artsy tourist area. The town has a large selection of top notch galleries, restaurants, and museums to choose from.

If you are planning to spend the night, check out the Heron Inn and Watergrass Day Spa (www.theheron.com) 360-466-4626. Gary and his partner Mike have created a charming 12 room country inn with an award-winning day spa. If you are looking for a more private getaway, check out their waterfront guest house, the Heron’s Nest.

This is not your run-of-the-mill guest house. This is a million dollar home overlooking the Puget Sound. (www.heronlodging.com) The inn serves a full country breakfast in the morning to get your day started. There are a number of things you can do from La Conner besides walking around the town. Just a couple of suggestions are: Whale watching, incredible hiking trails, kayaking, and boating.

Check out the chamber of commerce (www.laconnerchamber.com) 888-642-9284 for more details and on upcoming events. While La Conner may not be the P-Town of the northwest yet, it is a very gay friendly area and you will definitely feel welcomed. You may even think about making this a second home as many other gay couples are doing.
